I know you’ve talked about stuff for anal, and how things have to have a flat base. However, I don’t get it. I mean, as long as I keep good hold of it, I’m ok right? Or like if I use a vibrating egg, and make sure I hold on to the wire, I’ll be ok, right?

I know it seems like people are being silly and over cautious when they constantly are repeating “only put things in your butt that have a flanged base.” I know it seems like over kill.
But let’s just break it down. Vaginas have an end; the cervix. It doesn’t matter if it’s a toy, or a tampon, or fingers, or anything; you can’t LOSE anything in the vagina. One might have to reach in, poke around a bit, and so on, but if you try hard enough, you can get anything one puts into the vagina out of the vagina.
The butt isn’t like this. Your anus is connected to the rectum (which is where you put fingers/dildos/cocks/plugs/etc to make it feel good). This is all fine and dandy. However, the rectum is connected to the rest of your digestive system — your intestines are ridiculously long. So if you put something in your butt, and you’re excited (because it feels good), your body can squeeze it up through the rectal cavity, and it CAN get lost inside your body.
Now, lots of people ask me if you can’t just wait and poop it out. In some cases, yes, you can. But in others, it might be too far up there, or wedged in at an odd angle, and just will not come out. If it is blocking part of your intestine and gets left there too long, you can get sepsis, which can require hospitalization, and can cause sickness and possibly be fatal. No fun.
Strings break. Wires break too. Your anus is a tight little thing, and when it squeezes/contracts, it has a lot of power behind it. A lot. Especially since you’ll be using lube (since the anus does not naturally lubricate), all it takes is a little too hard of squeezing, and a little bit of slipperly lube, and suddenly you’ve lost what you thought you had a death grip on.
Solution? Use toys that are designed for use in the butt. Most butt plugs have a base that is larger than the widest part of the toy. A lot of dildos do too (any harness-compatible dildo is also safe for use in the behind). Some anal beads are attached by a string; not as safe. Go for something made of attached silicone that has a flat base or a larger handle on the end. Many of these toys even vibrate, or you can hold a vibrator (egg or otherwise) against them to get a little extra sensation. Just remember to keep anything with out a base out of your butt. Unless of course you have some sort of ER fantasy about explaining to the doctor on call exactly how you got WHAT stuck up there, and dealing with possible surgical consequences.
May the butt be with you!
